At the Fair of Ecology, Novi Sad was highlighted as the only Balkan city with Ramsar “Wetland City” status, with workshops and a dedicated panel discussion.
Preservation of nature and natural resources, as well as environmental protection, are the central themes of the Ecology Fair, and the best way to preserve nature is to learn about it from a young age. This is exactly what the City Administration for Environmental Protection is doing, because it has prepared a series of contents intended for the youngest at the stand in Hall "Master". The emphasis of the performance at this fair is that Novi Sad received accreditation as a city of wetlands from the Ramsar Commission. The importance of this for Novi Sad and our country is confirmed by the fact that 74 cities in the world have this accreditation, along with Novi Sad and 14 cities in Europe, and Novi Sad is the only city in the Balkans that holds this accreditation.Environmental protection, conservation of natural resources and the importance of wetlands are the central topics discussed at the stand, and as it was already shown yesterday, the youngest have something to say. During the fair event, more than 350 elementary school students will participate in workshops on these topics, and yesterday's guests - students from three Novi Sad elementary schools, although still very young, were good listeners, but also asked good questions to adults about why it is important to preserve nature and the living environment. The activities of the City Administration for Environmental Protection continue throughout the Ecology Fair. Today, at 12 o'clock, a conference and panel discussion will be held with the theme "Novi Sad - City of Wetlands", the Special Nature Reserve Koviljsko-Petrovaradinski Rit and the Begečka Jama Nature Park will be presented, and important types of wetlands in the territory of Novi Sad will be discussed.
