World Bee Day was celebrated yesterday, May 20, and although we do not have the opportunity to meet these perfect little creatures at the 93rd International Agricultural Fair, in Hall 2 we can get acquainted with their "face and work" in conversation with exhibitors of bee products. For Jelena Radaković, who founded the Agricultural Farm "Alchemy of Honey" in 2013, being a beekeeper is the realization of a decades-long dream.
– I knew from an early age that nature was my path, and when I started beekeeping, such an intense connection was created that I can't leave it – says Jelena Radaković and points to the almost magical healing power of bees. – When I was little, I used to get swelling from stings, and when I started working with bees, that didn't happen anymore. The bee has a special microcosm and energy. I have a theory that they know exactly where you are sick, and when they stab you in a certain place, it means that there is a problem. It's a place where there's no balance. We know that bees are the main pollinators, but their role is not only that. In addition to the production of honey, their effort and work also give us propolis, pollen and perga (bee bread), royal jelly, but also bee venom.– The bee is also an extrasensor for changes that we do not yet feel – adds our interlocutor. – In beekeeping, the most important thing is the love for nature. There are challenging years when I can't cover myself materially, but love remains, and anyone who is ready to give of himself and is happy in it, even when it is not materially justified, should try beekeeping. I think bee products are just about to take off, because some doctors are starting to talk about it, and people are listening to them. The idea of celebrating World Bee Day came from the Slovenian Beekeepers' Association, and was accepted by the United Nations General Assembly, and since 2018, the life of these yellow-black insects has been celebrated on May 20. Bees have been producing honey for 150 million years and are the only true food producers in the animal world.
