ECOLOGY IN THE AFRICAN CONTEXT Nature is our home, if we protect it, it will protect us

- When we talk about the future of Africa, do we imagine only skyscrapers, industry, highways, technology and economic growth? Or do we also imagine forests that will still stand, rivers that will continue to flow, land that will continue to provide food, and communities that will have clean air and safe water?

Because the future of Africa is not only built in our cities. It also depends on what we decide to do with the environment that surrounds us. And that is why today's topic "Ecology in the African context" is so important – Thandeka Mamba from the Afro-center of Serbia began the panel discussion yesterday in the "Master Hall".
Africa is a continent of exceptional natural wealth and biodiversity. From the forests of Central Africa, through the savannas of East and South Africa, to rivers, wetlands, mountains and coasts.
"Our communities have knowledge about the environment that has been passed down through generations. Across the continent, people are developing new approaches in the fields of energy, agriculture, waste management, construction, transport and nature conservation. The main question is how to connect this knowledge, innovation and ambition to achieve sustainable development," said Thandeka Mamba.
The answer to this question was tried to be defined by a civil engineer and a final year student of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of the University of Belgrade, Makhanya Siyabonga from the Kingdom of Eswatini.
- Hunting and nature are an important part of Serbian tradition. Many of you love forests, rivers and wildlife. But the modern world brings challenges. We build roads, houses and warehouses. We use trucks and machines. If we do it badly, we destroy animal habitats. We pollute the air and water. It also harms hunting. That is why we have to work smarter. Novi Sad and Vojvodina have beautiful natural landscapes. Hunting camps are places where people come to enjoy nature. If we build and transport carefully, these places remain beautiful. We can have good roads. We can have good facilities for hunters. And still protect forests and animals. It is possible. Each of us can contribute. Nature is not just a place to hunt. It is our home. If we protect it, it will protect us. Thank you for loving this country and its nature – said Makhanya Siyabonga.
